NEW for 2023- Our Autumn/ Winter mixture has been specially designed to be sown Late August to Early October and should be dug April/ May time (before flowing takes place).

What's in the mixture?

60% Westerwolds Ryegrass

40% Common Vetch

Why Choose this mixture?

We've created this mixture to help improve soil over the winter months, giving your garden a boost coming into Spring.

Westerwolds Ryegrass penetrate heavier soils and bind together lighter ones. It is able to dredge up minerals that might have been washed out during heavy winter rain and so help stabilise the soil by preventing erosion and capping. Its foliage & roots add valuable organic matter when chopped up and dug in the following spring.

Common Vetch is a known nitrogen fixer, meaning it increases the nitrogen levels in soil which other plants need to grow. It also helps hold soil in place with its large root system, helping to reduce erosion.

Sowing Information- Sow August- mid October ready for digging in February-April. For best results, prepare the ground by digging, weeding and raking into a fine seed bed. Before incorporating, make sure that the mixture is chopped into a fine mulch by using a rotary mower or strimmer. Leave the mulch on the surface to wilt for a few hours before digging in the top 15cm (6") of soil and allow to rot down for between 2-3 weeks before using the land.
